About Build For Good

What does Build For Good do?

Build for Good helps people who have experienced homelessness shape real community change.
We bring people with lived experience and community partners together to create practical solutions that make housing work for everyone.

Are you a housing provider or shelter?

No. We are not a housing or shelter program. Instead, we focus on what it takes to make housing work. We help people experiencing homelessness with communication, connection, and a real voice in decision-making around homelessness.

Who can be part of Build For Good?

Anyone who believes in building a community where people with lived experience have a voice and a place to belong.

Many of our supports are designed for people who have experienced homelessness. Partners, advocates, and community members are always welcome to take part in our events or initiatives open to the community.

How is Build For Good connected to the homeless service system?

We work to ensure that people with lived experience of homelessness are treated as partners in creating solutions that affect their housing and their lives.

For People with Lived Experience

Can I join a workshop if I am not currently experiencing homelessness?

Yes. All of our workshops are open to people who are currently experiencing homelessness and those have experienced homelessness in the past.

We make sure each space feels safe, welcoming, and supportive.

What happens at a workshop?

Workshops are small, relaxed sessions where people learn together, practice communication, and build confidence.

Do I have to share my personal story?

No. You decide what feels comfortable to share.

We focus on helping you find your voice on your own terms, whether that means storytelling, speaking up in meetings, or simply learning new tools.

Is there a cost to participate?

No. Our workshops and events are free.

Food and refreshments are always provided, and we do our best to remove barriers that make it hard to attend.

How can I help lead or plan events?

We’re always looking for people with lived experience of homelessness to help guide our work.

If you’re interested in planning workshops, speaking at events, or helping lead change in the community, reach out to us. Contact us here.

For Community Partners

How can my organization get involved?

We welcome partners who want to listen, learn, and work alongside people with lived experience of homelessness.

You can host a workshop, join our Bank On Mohawk Valley Coalition, attend an event, or help us build new initiatives.

Do you offer training or workshops for staff?

Yes. We provide tailored sessions that help organizations build stronger partnerships with people who’ve experienced homelessness and center lived experience in their work.

How can we better support people with lived experience?

The best place to start is by listening. Our public events and community conversations are great ways to learn directly from people who have been there.
